Professors Klaus Dieter Thoben and Walter Lang’s visit to Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) took place from the 7th-13th October, 2023.
As a part of European Union-funded project titled “Strategic Support for Accreditation of Programs and Internationalization at South Asian Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) – SSAPI” under Erasmus+ Capacity Building Higher Education Programme, Professors Klaus Dieter Thoben and Walter Lang from University of Bremen, Germany, arrived at Thimphu from College of Science and Technology, RUB on the evening of 6th October,2023 to review accreditation documents and conduct seminar and meetings on quality assurance and international accreditation for the faculty and the management staff under KGUMSB.
Since their arrival coincided with weekends, they visited primary health centers and hospitals under Punakha, Wangdue and Bumthang districts from 7th– 10th October to observe student’s field practice sites and familiarize with the three-tiered health care delivery system in Bhutan. At FNPH, all students must undergo 2-3 months mandatory field practices in the peripheral district health centers during their final semester, as majority of thenursing and allied health graduates upon completion of their study are posted in the districts and rural primary health care centers across Bhutan. During their visit to these health centers, professors interacted with health care workers, observed real work settings and the service delivery system at each level.
