Professors Klaus Dieter Thoben and Walter Lang’s visit to Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB) took place from the 7th-13th October, 2023.
Professor Walter Lang from the Electrical Engineering Department, University of Bremen facilitated a session on Evolution of standard of European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and took through calculus of ECTS. He further touched on international accreditation process covering topics on contents of application for accreditation, and obstacles to accreditation processes including control and over regulations. Twenty seven participants comprising of faculty staff, deans, deputy deans, program leaders, curriculum officers from five constituent and affiliated colleges, as well as officials from medical council and regulatory authorities participated in the training.
In the afternoon, Professor Thoben further delved into program vs. system accreditation, discussed various frameworks, procedure, guidelines, and requirements for self-assessment report in European higher education system. The participants had a very interactive session with Prof Thoben on European standards and guidelines (ESG) and standards for internal and external quality assurance and accreditation. He also shared his rich experiences about higher education practices in German universities including University of Bremen’s internal quality assurance and accreditation system.
In the evening, President and senior management official of the university and constituent faculties as a token of gratitude, hosted an official dinner and presented souvenirs to the two professors.
Over all, this visit and the training activities facilitated valuable exchanges between the two professors and the academic, and management staffs under KGUMSB fostering international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
